Josephine “Jo” Patnaude Obituary: A Life of Love and Legacy

Josephine “Jo” Patnaude Obituary – In Augusta, Maine, a community mourns the loss of a beloved matriarch, Josephine “Jo” Patnaude, who passed away on February 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Fondly known as “Jo,” she touched the lives of many as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Born on April 9, 1936, in St. Albans, Vermont, Jo’s journey was marked by love, resilience, and dedication. She was the daughter of Florence Sweeney and Harvey Mathieu but was later adopted by Josie and Archie Herson of Highgate Center, Vermont. Despite facing challenges early in life, Jo’s spirit remained strong, and she proudly earned her GED in Augusta.

Jo’s life took a beautiful turn when she met Robert K. Patnaude, her loving husband, in St. Albans while Robert was serving in the military. Their union was celebrated on September 18, 1954, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Highgate Center. Together, they embarked on a journey that led them to Maine, where they built a family and cherished fifty-nine years of marriage until Robert’s passing in 2013.

Throughout her life, Jo wore many hats with grace and kindness. She was not only a dedicated homemaker but also made lasting impressions at the various workplaces she graced, including Hazard Shoe, Augusta Convalescent Center, Ernest Morrisette Insurance, and the Flower Cart. Jo’s commitment extended beyond her professional life as she actively participated in the community as a communicant of St. Michael’s Parish.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Jo found joy in simple pleasures. She had a passion for sewing, tending to her gardens, and maintaining a warm and welcoming home. However, her greatest source of happiness came from being surrounded by her family, whom she showered with unconditional love and care.

Jo’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her loved ones. She is survived by her sons Robert J. Patnaude and David Patnaude, her daughter Lisa Morin, grandchildren Melissa Curll, Ashley Patnaude, Danielle Patnaude, Derek Patnaude, Amy Morin, and great-grandchildren Jennifer Ackerman, Jacob Ackerman, Haley LaPlante, and Stephanie Emerson. Jo’s memory will live on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and warmth.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the State of Maine and the City of Augusta dispatch centers, Augusta Fire/Rescue, Augusta Police Department, and the emergency room staff at Maine General Medical Center for their compassionate care and support during Jo’s final days.

A period of visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 9 a.m. A committal ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, where Jo will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Robert.
